Today is a little capsule of our common history. It is activities like this that highlight our countries once existed with a bridge and that bridge is still there. We must somehow remember it because it is still within us.
The community of Lopinot is one of the strongholds of what had been known as the Cocoa Paņol (Spanish-Creole). We also have Arima and we also have San Fernando.
A student by the name of Brian Gerald Phillip Junior reminded me of something very important. He reminded that we are one human race and that we all cherish the same things and we all have the same values. We were talking about the May Cross and a festivity to celebrate the coming of the Harvest or the coming of the rainy season.
When the Spaniards were conquering, they brought this tradition. But, they found those who they were conquering, which were the indigenous people they found here, celebrating the same thing around the same month.
We all celebrate the harvest and we all celebrate life itself; that would be the month of May. We all have something in common.
Brian Gerald Phillip Junior reminded me that if you simply put aside all languages and all of our small differences, because they start to seem as very small, you will see in activities like today that we all have one thing in common and in mind.
Today is just a reminder of who we are. We are one human race.
