The City of Port of Spain had the honour of nominating and appointing members to fill the esteemed offices of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Aldermen, Alderwoman, and Councillor and the selection of Chairmen of Standing and Special Committees on Tuesday 25th July, 2006.
The start of this formal occasion began with an opening invocation, the singing of the National Anthem and the disrobing of His Worship, the Mayor of Port of Spain, Alderman Murchison Brown of the Mayoral Chain. Immediately after was the taking of oath of office and acceptance of office of Councillor Denise Aleong-Thomas, Aldermen Murchison Brown, Francis Pau, Adrian Clarke and Alderwoman Noreen Holder, all of whom vowed to subscribe to the Declaration of Acceptance, which marked the appointment of a fully sworn in council.
The nomination of the post of Mayor was next on the agenda. The sole nomination was that of Alderman Murchison Brown to fill the position of Mayor for the City of Port of Spain. Alderwoman Noreen Holder was then nominated to announce the Mayor of the City of Port of Spain, Mr. Murchison Brown, who later accepted his nomination and the duties of the office. His Worship, the Mayor of Port of Spain was then invested with the Mayoral Chain in accordance with protocol and introduced as the Mayor of the City of Port of Spain.
His Worship Murchison Brown took over the proceedings henceforth and invited nominations for the Deputy Mayor. The unanimous decision was that of Councillor Rishi Lakhan who later accepted his nomination and the duties of the office.
The Mayor then proceeded to name the members of the Standing and Special Committees, all of whom were retained to fulfill another term in office.
The Mayor of Port of Spain, His Worship Murchison Brown, then thanked the council for there nominations, welcomed his team and vowed to do his best while in office.
