The Southern Emancipation Committee (SEC) hosted their Inaugural Dinner and Fashion Show on 28th July, 2007, at the popular Marion's Place Inn, situated at #15 Railway Avenue, Plaisance Village, Point-a-Pierre. The occasion was celebrated with a poolside buffet-styled dinner courtesy of Marion's Place Inn followed by a fashion extravaganza with The House of Jacqui models.

The evening started with the national anthem followed with a brief welcome by SEC's Vice Chairperson, Ms. Marva Sandy. Guests were then invited and ushered to a small cozy area where a fusion of cuisine was elegantly displayed for the guests to be served. With a well-organized system, the guests were able to maneuver themselves in a comfortable manner while being served by the courteous and professional members of staff at the Marion's Place Inn.

After the guests enjoyed their leisurely dinner, there was a brief interlude during which Mr. Nyahuma Obika, President of the Caribbean Historical Society delivered his speech on Financial Empowerment. Mr. Obika stated that although we are in the information age, we are really in the age where they use information to control and that we know those who control information control the world. He also stated that some of the most powerful influences on the youth come from the "culture of the street". He urged many to seek financial empowerment to deal with the imbalance in the system.

Following Mr. Obika's speech, Nakeisha Gabriel entertained the audience with an array of traditional African songs which highlighted the versatility of her voice.

With a brief introduction and music to suit the mood, the awaited fashion show started. One by one, the models gracefully made their entrance around the candlelit poolside modeling a variety of elegant African evening wear and fashionable designs for special occasions. The audience demonstrated their appreciation with thunderous applause as the models made their way back and forth throughout the entire show.

The models outfits were provided by African Classics, Lystra and Marva Collections, Tricia's Import and Export and Nzinga.

Overall it was a successful evening. The guests were invited to stay after the show to indulge in an evening of dancing and fraternizing with friends and family.
