NOBEL Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela said yesterday he had defied his doctor's orders to end all international travel at the end of last year to come to Trinidad and Tobago.
The former South Africa President explained that he had done so to help his country in its bid to host the 2010 Football World Cup.
He said he also did so because he loved Trinidad and Tobago.
Mandela, who turns 86 in June, said he was supposed to retire from international travel in December 2003, but added that he felt it essential that he do all he could to help South Africa's bid, especially given his country's long history of oppression.
