Single pan bands start tonight

PANORAMA'S preliminary round continues tonight as 12 single pan bands from Pan Trinbago's northern region and four similar groups from the east zone make their first bid for places at the semi-final of this category.
Remaining single pan bands in both zones will be judged tomorrow, with the jury beginning its journey from7 p.m. each night.
North Zone Single Pan Bands/ Tune:

Pan body bans free North Stand banners
THE PRATICE of hanging banners in the North Stand at the Queens Park Savannah for the Panorama semi-final without permission from the appropriate authority has been banned with immediate effect.
Pan Trinbago announced yesterday that all persons wishing to hang banners, whether to identify where their posse is located or bring greetings to friends via television coverage, must pay a fee and obtain written approval before putting up any signs. Failure to conform to the rule will result in the banner being torn down.
"The measure is not intended to reduce anyone's fun," said president Patrick Arnold, "but to deliver to advertisers who pay for their spaces some sense of fairness. If a particular product sponsors a posse and its brand or logo appears on the banner, it unfairly competes with a paying advertiser.
"Some of our Panorama revenue is generated by selling space to advertisers so we cannot turn a blind eye to other banners arbitrarily put up for however innocent a reason, because the legitimate advertiser is also guaranteed a certain amount of space so attention could be focused on his product.
"It happens that a group might hold up a banner if they recognize the camera is on them or if their favourite band is on the stage and they wish to say 'good luck' to the members. That would be difficult to stop and it happens at entertainment events all over the world but put up a banner for the duration of an event is a form of advertising and there are regulation concerning that," Arnold said.
