Defending King of Carnival Curtis Eustace is among the eight finalists who will compete at the Dimanche Gras on Sunday.
Just before his appearance on Tuesday night at the semi-finals, Eustace said he was going after the hat-trick.
Eustace placed second after Geraldo Vieira Jr following the preliminary rounds.
He will again be the king for Legends, whose portrayal this year is titled "Freedom."
Eustace's costume is titled "Drums of Freedom," and is also one of the largest in the finals.
Vieira Jr portrays "Alladin's Last Ride" and is also a strong contender, as the crowd rallied behind him during his time on stage.
With a ban on pyrotechnics, many of the kings used lighting effects to enhance their portrayals.
However, this did not take away from the impact they created.
Other finalists include Roland St George - "Bling Bling Lamassu - The Wishmaster," Wade Madray - "De Origin," Dave Lakhan - "The Winged Messenger," Juan Maximo - "King Ferdinand of Imperial Spain," Andre De Freitas - "Che-Low and the Magical Spirits," and Fareid Carvalho - "Dreamscape - Limbo of the Lost."
They were selected out of 15 competitors.
Meanwhile, Kimberly Joseph, who portrayed "Nubian Queen," topped a field of 18 competitors for the Junior Queen of Carnival title.
Coming in second and third were Shari Derek with "Sheba, Queen of D Upper Nile" and Ghaaliya O'Brian with "Meh Granny Say Playing in the Rain Does Really Bring Sickness."
The Junior King of Carnival finals and the Queen of Carnival semi-finals will take place today at the Savannah from 8 pm.
Winners of the Junior King and Queen of Carnival will make guest appearances at the Dimanche Gras.
