Launch of National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition
On Wednesday 23rd January, 2019, the Trinbago Unified Calypsonian Organization (TUCO) in collaboration with First Citizens, hosted the official launch of the 2019 National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition. This event was held at the VIP Lounge of the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. The morning’s assemblage included First Citizens and TUCO representatives, Ministry of Education School Supervisor of Port of Spain and environs Carl Thomas, and in the Curriculum Division Josephine Torrel-Brown, representatives of the National AIDS Coordinating committee Mr. Ian Ramdahin, Dr. Ayanna Sebro, Luke Lashley and Heather Rodney, students of the Belmont Boys R.C. School, and the Melville Memorial Girls Anglican School.
Smaran – “40 Years of Artistry”
On Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November, 2017, Nrityanjali Theatre (Institute for the Arts and Culture), in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation, commemorated forty years in the arts with an outstanding classical Indian Ballet production. The annual production, themed “Smaran – 40 years of Artistry” was presented in two segments.
The Launch of “Monarchs”
On Wednesday 02nd January, 2019, Trinidad and Tobago’s very own Calypso Monarch Duane O Connor, joined by friends, family and well-wishers, celebrated the official grand opening of his new establishment, Monarchs at #10 Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook, Port of Spain.
Among those present for this auspicious event were Minister of Public Administration and Member of Parliament for the area, Marlene McDonald, president of the Trinbagonian Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO), Lutalo ‘Brother Resistance’ Masimba and members of the calypso, steelpan and other cultural fraternities.
TUCO’s Second Health Seminar with Dr. Solaiman Juman
On Saturday 08th September, 2018, the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organization (TUCO) hosted their second Health Seminar in the V.I.P. Lounge at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. The seminar was officially launched in May this year and is aimed at raising healthy lifestyle awareness. It examines pertinent issues of poor health which include common causes, prevention and management to ensure a healthy and improved lifestyle.

Today we are going to talk about the larynx and the voice. At the end of the talk, what I hope is that you all understand a little bit more of how sound is produced, what are the problems that could happen with the voice box and how you can prevent the problems. The voice is the oldest musical instrument. Sound is just the vibrations.
Port of Spain Bioblitz and Nature Fair 2016
From Friday 4th to Sunday 6th November, 2016, the Royal Botanic Gardens was the base camp for the highly informative fifth annual “Port of Spain BioBlitz and Nature Fair”. Hosted by the Trinidad & Tobago Field Naturalists Club (TTFNC) and the University of the West Indies Zoology Museum, the occasion included over twenty organizations, NGO and charities.
Earl Crosby’s Send-off
Prominent businessman and cultural activist, Earl Crosby, passed away at the age of sixty-five on Wednesday 3rd August, 2016, after succumbing to pancreatic cancer. Crosby was warded at the Vitas House Hospice, St. James at the time of his passing.
The Life and Times of Donald “Junior” Noel
Donald “Junior” Noel, percussionist and master drummer of the Northwest Laventille Cultural Movement passed away recently on 28th November, 2015. Junior Noel, as he preferred to be called, was born on 6th August, 1960. From an early stage he showed an affinity for drumming and was a foundation member of several cultural groups.
Posse 67 Clean-up at St. Dominic’s Ground
On Sunday 17th July, 2016, members of Posse 67, a volunteer organization, spent half the day in a clean-up campaign at the St. Dominic’s Children’s Home in Belmont in honour of Nelson Mandela International Day.
Posse 67 at The St Andrew’s Home for the Aged in Belmont
On Saturday 16th July, 2016, members of Posse 67 visited The St. Andrew’s Home for the Aged in Belmont to spend a casual evening of entertainment with some of its residents. In the spirit of giving back to those whose works and struggles helped pave the way for younger generations, Posse 67 contributed their time to socialise with the elderly.
