Generation Next Calypso Tent Judges Night 2016
On Tuesday 19th January, 2016, the Generation Next Calypso Tent was visited by the National Calypso Monarch judging panel for the preliminary round of judging. A cast of about twelve participants vied for a place in the semi-final round of the competition. This event took place at the tent’s seasonal home base, National Union of Government and Federated Workers’ (NUGFW) building, Union Hall on Henry, Port of Spain.

On Monday 18th January, 2016, TUCO’s central executive calypso tent, Kaiso House, was visited by the National Calypso Monarch judging panel for the preliminary round of judging. A cast of twenty-three calypsonians vied for a place in the semi-final round of the competition. This event took place at the tent’s seasonal home base, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.

On Friday 15th January, 2016, TUCO’s south zone calypso tent, Kaiso Showkase, was visited by the National Calypso Monarch judging panel for the preliminary round of judging. A cast of twenty-three calypsonians vied for a place in the semi-final round of the competition.
Desperadoes 2016 Victory Celebration: ”Nobody Badder Than We”
On Sunday 14th February, 2016, the 2016 National Panorama champions of Trinidad & Tobago, WITCO Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, proudly presented their trophy to Laventille residents during a motorcade throughout the community starting from Picadilly Street. This band now has eleven Panorama titles making it the band with the most titles in the history of the National Panorama Competition. This year also marked the fiftieth anniversary since the band’s first victory in 1966.
Kalypso Revue Tent Judging Night 2016
On Saturday 16th January 2016, the Kalypso Revue Tent Judging Night was hosted at the Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union (SWWTU) Hall on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain. The tent, which is managed by veteran calypsonian Michael “Sugar Aloes” Osuna, was filled with enthusiastic lovers of the calypso art form.
NWAC National Calypso Queen Competition 2015
On the 19th January, 2015, the National Women’s Action Committee held its annual Calypso Queens Competition, most fittingly, at the Queen’s Hall in St. Ann’s. As guests arrived decked in their finery, the artistes prepared to battle on the stage for the title of Calypso Queen 2015.

The atmosphere in Kaiso House on 27th January, 2015, was electric. Patrons swarmed to their seats in the cooled confines of the auditorium, and as the sound men checked the system, singers psyched themselves up for the evening of competition ahead.

On Thursday 22nd January, 2015, the cry of “Kaiso Kaiso!” rang out in the auditorium of Issa’s Restaurant and Pub as the Klassic Ruso Calypso Tent opened its doors to thirty competitors in the calypso arena. As the artistes readied for the show, some of the patrons took the time to share their personal experiences and enjoyment in the tent over the years.
