Former Prime Minister Patrick Manning's State Funeral

A State funeral for former Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick Augustus Mervyn Manning, took place on Saturday 9th July, 2016, at the Trinity Cathedral in Port of Spain. Hundreds of mourners journeyed from all over the country, and indeed the region, to pay their respects to the longest serving parliamentarian in the country’s history. Manning, who was the member of parliament for San Fernando East from 1971-2015, served as Parliamentary Secretary in several Ministries between 1971 and 1978; he was the junior Minister in the Ministry of Finance from 1979; he was granted a full Cabinet position as Minister of Information and Minister of Industry and Commerce in 1981; he served as Minister of Energy and Natural Resources between 1981 and 1986; he served three terms as Prime Minister at different periods between 1995 and 2010; and twice as Leader of the Opposition between 1986 and 2001.
